About this artwork

This is the “Dear Art Collector Billionaire” by Guerrilla Girls, a 2015 poster printed on paper in two digital prints. The piece bursts with bright pop pinks and yellows, a typical Guerrilla Girls palette that draws the eye before the message takes hold. Beneath the eye‑catching colours, stark statistics and rhetorical questions expose the glaring gender imbalance in major art institutions. The text is biting, witty, and unapologetic, a hallmark of the group’s activist style. The Guerrilla Girls formed in 1985 after witnessing a MoMA exhibition that showcased only thirteen women out of 169 artists. Since then, they’ve hidden behind gorilla masks and adopted pseudonyms of celebrated female figures, using their posters to hold Euro‑American museums accountable. In this work, the group turns a wealthy collector’s gaze into a mirror that reflects the inequity embedded in the art market.
